Southwest Rochester and the University:
Community Building through Puppetry and Technology
April 8th, 2019
This poster centers on the Spring 2019 community-engaged course project of Translation: Interpreting and Adapting (WRT 263/ENG 289/LTS 263) in collaboration with the southwest Rochester community. Mixed with hand puppetry and drone-captured videos, the documentary in progress follows students’ site visits and interviews with two community partners, Sue Choi of Brooks Landing Diner and Kapatah Xi-Amuru of B+Healthy Fresh Food Market. To develop the film project, students have also received training from Puppet Trio, a puppeteering group based in the 19th Ward and worked with Andrew Cappetta of the Academic Programs at the Memorial Art Gallery through a viewing and discussion session on Lessons of the Hour by Isaac Julien,
a multimedia installation loosely based on the life of Frederick Douglass.
