{"id":364,"date":"2018-02-28T19:30:49","date_gmt":"2018-02-28T19:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/swang.digitalscholar.rochester.edu\/code-meshing\/?page_id=364"},"modified":"2018-03-24T20:52:12","modified_gmt":"2018-03-24T20:52:12","slug":"scholarship-about-code-meshing","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/swang.digitalscholar.rochester.edu\/code-meshing\/scholarship-about-code-meshing\/","title":{"rendered":"Scholarship about Code-meshing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this section, we have collected a variety of published\u00a0research articles, book-length publications, critical anthologies, and special issues of academic journals (e.g., <a href=\"http:\/\/swang.digitalscholar.rochester.edu\/code-meshing\/references\/literacy-in-diverse-educational-contexts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research on literacy in diverse educational contexts<\/a>) exploring code-meshing as a translingual writing strategy in the classroom and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Prevalent in networked communication and frequently aided by the use of multimodality, code-meshing, as argued, allows its users to tap into the full range of their linguistic repertoire and literacy practices, to negotiate their identity, discover their voice, and advance their arguments effectively (e.g., <a href=\"http:\/\/swang.digitalscholar.rochester.edu\/code-meshing\/references\/blessed-in-my-own-way\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blessed in my own way: Pedagogical affordances for dialogical voice construction in multilingual student writing<\/a>, or <a href=\"http:\/\/swang.digitalscholar.rochester.edu\/code-meshing\/references\/im-an-artist-and-a-scholar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I\u2019m an artist and a scholar who is trying to find a middle point<\/a>). Through this process, students recognize how this makes their writing and speaking more natural (although it is not necessarily easier) while also becoming aware of the risks of writing unconventionally.<\/p>\n<p>Some of these resources include lesson plans and assignments (e.g., <a href=\"http:\/\/swang.digitalscholar.rochester.edu\/code-meshing\/references\/pedagogy-for-college-writing-instruction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Code-meshing and culturally relevant pedagogy for college writing instruction<\/a>) that allow both domestic and international students to explore their diverse use of language outside of the dominant conventions of academic and professional writing.<\/p>\n<p>Other resources are academic studies that have observed and traced the intricacies of mixed languages (including pidgins and creoles) around the globe (<a href=\"http:\/\/swang.digitalscholar.rochester.edu\/code-meshing\/real-world\/atlas-of-pidgin-and-creole-language-structures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">APiCS<\/a>) and the diversity of dialects within a single language, like English (<a href=\"http:\/\/swang.digitalscholar.rochester.edu\/code-meshing\/real-world\/do-you-speak-american\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Do You Speak American?<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Please note that the items appear in alphabetical order according to the short title, across several pages.
